Wausa Public Schools, Home of the Vikings, is accredited by the State of Nebraska and is a member of the Lewis and Clark Conference, Clark Division. The school district covers 121 square miles in the southeast corner of Knox County, western Cedar County and northern Pierce County.

The current high school building was built in 1913. A new elementary wing was added in 1960, a new high school wing in 1965 and a gymnasium and locker rooms in 1975. The elementary population is 120 students, grades K-6, with a teacher/pupil ratio of 1:14. The high school population is 88 with a teacher/pupil ratio of 1:8. It is estimated that over 99 percent of the students in the eighth grade go on to graduate.

Wausa Schools offer the latest in technology, featuring CAD drawing, access to Internet and Intranet, modern computer labs in the elementary and high school areas, computers in most classrooms with the latest addition being a two-way interactive video communications lab for Long Distance Learning. Wausa is currently linked with seven other schools in the surrounding area to receive from Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, and Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.
